The Goldfish

This morning, as I awoke to the sound of Andrew's cries, I groggily heard the noise of someone eating out of a box. You know the sound, when bits of food scrape against the plastic lining of a box of crackers or cereal. As I opened my eyes, I saw Abigail lying on the floor in front of our dog Maud's bed. She had a box of Goldfish crackers, and she ate one and then gave one to Maud. Then she ate another one and gave another one to Maud! Now, my dog is banned from table food, it makes her very sick. Abigail actually didn't know she was breaking a rule, because she has never tried to feed Maud before, she always just pretty much ignored her (which Maud loves, since she is a bit cranky). But now, Abigail is trying to make friends with the old girl. I explained to Abigail that Maud is only allowed to eat dog food and dog treats, and Abigail said, "but Mom, Maud can't eat dog food. She wants my food." So I explained how people food makes Maud sick, and Abigail said, "Oh Mom, poor Maud!" Yes, for those of you who read my blog, Abigail now refers to Billy and I as "Dad and Mom." Aren't young children supposed to called their parents Daddy and Mommy?
