Everyone who has children needs to read this article A law in this country goes into effect Feb 10, 2009. This law will require all children's clothing manufactured before Feb 10, 2009 to be tested by an independent lab for lead. That means, that all clothing manufactured before Feb 10, has to be independently tested before it can be sold. That means, that used children's clothing will be virtually unavailable to buy in thrift stores, at goodwill, or on ebay! These places are where I buy almost ALL my children's clothes. I'm having a heart attack right now! I urge you to please e-mail your congressman. As far as I can tell, things are in the works to revise this law (Consumer Production Safety Improvement Act), so writing your congressman (or all of them) can make a difference! I'm not against having new clothes tested, but surely they can grandfather in these old clothes. These used clothes will have to be disposed of at the landfill according to the article if they are not tested--which is VERY expensive. How will homeless people be clothed? I don't know if this will affect the mission since they give clothing away (but who knows).
